Louise Selby has been an absolute pleasure to work with. Louise acknowledges the barriers to learning and facilitates opportunities for practitioners to be reflective in their practice. Working with Louise enables staff at all levels to be empowered and further strengthen teaching practice. From the initial meeting to discuss the needs of the school to the workshops led by Louise, staff have felt more equipped and empowered to support children with dyslexia. Louise provided high quality workshops based on the needs of the school, which were evidenced informed and met the needs of our small primary school. Resources shared by Louise have enabled staff to feel more confident to adapt learning to support children with dyslexia, ensuring children also felt equipped to access their learning. As a result of the work led by Louise, the staff have developed their subject knowledge further to use strategies suggested for children with dyslexia for all learners. Staff have continued to reflect on their current practice and learning resources in our setting and have had the confidence to share their practice across the school which has further empowered the teaching staff and children. Isham CE Primary would highly recommend Louise to support many more schools and will be working with her again.

Morph Mastery Training
If you are looking to get a team of staff equipped to offer Morph Mastery Intervention then I can offer in-house training either in person, remotely or a combination of both, depending on your requirements.
Louise’s Morph Mastery programme has enabled us to look at new ways of learning to support children whose barriers have prevented them from having success with other Literacy interventions. Not only was it a fun intervention that captivated the children, it also taught new skills to the staff delivering it and had a positive impact in the classroom by the way of transferable skills. Louise is fun and supportive to work with and loves to celebrate a child’s success. She considers the needs of the child, yet still maintains a high expectation that they CAN achieve . . . and she gets results!

Bespoke Training / Advisory Support
Every school environment is unique and every child’s needs are unique. For this reason I offer bespoke specialist training and advice to schools across Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire (or further afield by arrangement) to meet the needs of learners with dyslexia and specific learning difficulties.
Specialist Teaching
Dyslexia specialist teachers hold the Level 5 certificate and have specialist expertise in how pupils with dyslexia and literacy difficulties learn, as well as understanding of research. Specialist teaching by a Level 5 trained teacher is personalised, assessment led and evidence based. This can be 1:1 or within a group, and can be extremely beneficial for all students who have not made adequate progress via the usual routes.
Dyslexia Assessment Services for Schools
There are 4 available options:
1. Exam Access Arrangements Testing
Formal assessment of students who may require additional support during exams due to specific learning difficulties or disabilities. The process includes a thorough evaluation of the student’s needs, focusing on areas such as reading speed, writing fluency, processing speed, and working memory. The goal is to determine the most appropriate accommodations, such as extra time, use of a reader or scribe, or assistive technology, to ensure the student can demonstrate their true academic ability without being disadvantaged by their learning challenges.
2. Full Diagnostic Assessment
This serves to identify cognitive strengths and weaknesses, literacy attainment, barriers to learning and whether dyslexia is present. The assessment will establish whether the learner has dyslexia, and will identify if other specific learning difficulties (e.g. ADHD, DCD) might be present, with onward referral information where relevant. It includes assessment of:
-
-
- underlying ability
- auditory and working memory
- processing speed
- phonological awareness
- reading comprehension, accuracy and fluency
- spelling and writing
- handwriting
- number skills and motor skills where relevant
-
A detailed report will be provided with scores, analysis, diagnostic decision, referral information if needed and thorough and detailed recommendations. The report will meet standards of SASC (Spld Assessment Standards Committee) and will be valid for the learner’s lifetime, including disabled students’ allowance in higher education, if applicable.
3. Formal cognitive and learning assessment
This serves to identify cognitive strengths and weaknesses, literacy attainment and barriers to learning with a focus on resources and strategies tailored to meet the needs of the pupil and supporting funding or EHCP applications. This assessment does not identify whether a pupil has dyslexia but will include assessment of, where relevant:
-
-
- underlying ability
- auditory and working memory
- processing speed
- phonological awareness
- reading comprehension, accuracy and fluency
- spelling and writing
- handwriting
- number skills and motor skills where relevant
-
A report will be provided with scores, analysis, referral information if needed and recommendations.
4. Assessment for learning needs
The focus of this assessment is to identify strengths and weaknesses in literacy attainment, barriers to learning with a focus on resources, strategies and intervention tailored to meet the needs of the pupil.

Beyond Labels – What do to about dyslexia in schools (and what not to do)
We’ve come a long way in understanding dyslexia. But in many classrooms, that understanding hasn’t fully translated into practice. This two-part webinar series will help you bridge that gap - with practical, evidence-informed strategies you can use immediately.
Morph Mastery for Groups Intervention Training
Morph Mastery for Small Groups is a powerful new adaptation of the successful Morph Mastery 1:1 intervention – now reimagined to support small groups of learners aged 9 to 13 who are still struggling with spelling despite quality phonics teaching.

Morph Mastery Lessons in Action
By popular demand, I am offering free access to films of complete Morph Mastery lessons. Meet the fantastic Phoebe, who is in Year 3 and at the very start of her Morph Mastery journey (week 3). Morph Mastery Intervention Training Course
This is an interactive, step by step course in delivering the intervention, including understanding the methodology and using the assessments to inform learning and track progress. There's 8 core sessions over 8 weeks with tasks in between, and by the end of the sessions you'll be up and running with the intervention.
Mint Tea and Markets: Dyslexia and Metacognition
Metacognition is the process of thinking about learning. It's an active process which every effective learner uses, and research shows that teaching metacognition improves learning outcomes. In this course you'll gain some understanding of what meta-cognition looks like practically in the classroom. You'll learn what the barriers to meta-cognition are for dyslexics, but also what strengths they may have to help. You'll get some practical ideas and resources for things you can do to reduce those barriers and maximise those strengths.
Which books do I pick?
This one hour training course provides explanations and examples of the different ways in which books are levelled, when and why these different levelling systems are used, and how to choose books purposefully and accurately so that your learners succeed. You'll be shown how to take a very simple running record to determine whether a book is at the right level, and how to use the "Efficacious Four" method of checking comprehension.
Articulation of Sounds
This film shows you how to say all the commonly taught sounds in their purest forms and aligns with all systematic synthetic phonics programmes.

Phonics for Beginners
In this short course you'll learn the basic terminology, progression of teaching and see a film about how to articulate sounds. You'll also see some practical examples of how phonics is taught, and some ideas of how to support children who are struggling, including games.

This short course provides clear and accessible explanations of what working memory is, how it relates to cognitive load, and how it impacts learning. The focus is on practical strategies that can be used by any educator in any classroom
