Training Portal

Hello, I’m Louise Selby. I’ve worked in the field of specific learning difficulties and dyslexia for many years in many roles, but one thing that’s always driven me is my passion to enable, empower and equip.  My aim in setting up this training portal is to provide useful training for busy practitioners and parents. It’s high quality and based on my knowledge, experience and expertise, but offers content you can access easily and use immediately. Everything you’ll find on this portal aims to be hugely practical and accessible, and the films come with resources as well. There’s courses for parents, specialists and school based practitioners, so do take a look – and let me know if there’s training you’d like to see in future!

Mint Tea and Markets: Dyslexia and Metacognition

Metacognition is the process of thinking about learning. It's an active process which every effective learner uses, and research shows that teaching metacognition improves learning outcomes. In this course you'll gain some understanding of what meta-cognition looks like practically in the classroom. You'll learn what the barriers to meta-cognition are for dyslexics, but also what strengths they may have to help. You'll get some practical ideas and resources for things you can do to reduce those barriers and maximise those strengths.
