Louise Selby has been an absolute pleasure to work with. Louise acknowledges the barriers to learning and facilitates opportunities for practitioners to be reflective in their practice. Working with Louise enables staff at all levels to be empowered and further strengthen teaching practice. From the initial meeting to discuss the needs of the school to the workshops led by Louise, staff have felt more equipped and empowered to support children with dyslexia. Louise provided high quality workshops based on the needs of the school, which were evidenced informed and met the needs of our small primary school. Resources shared by Louise have enabled staff to feel more confident to adapt learning to support children with dyslexia, ensuring children also felt equipped to access their learning. As a result of the work led by Louise, the staff have developed their subject knowledge further to use strategies  suggested for children with dyslexia for all learners. Staff have continued to reflect on their current practice and learning resources in our setting and have had the confidence to share their practice across the school which has further empowered the teaching staff and children.  Isham CE Primary would highly recommend Louise to support many more schools and will be working with her again.

I have 3 children. The first two took to reading quickly and easily with little help from me other than practice. I have spent years trying to help my youngest to learn phonics and support his reading, extra tutoring, daily practice of what was being learned in school etc. By 8 years old I really didn’t know how I could help, we were still going over the same basics and nothing seemed to stick. Every time I suggested anything to do with reading he would just cry. Meeitng Louise has been such a blessing and a game changer for us all. Firstly she gave us some answers in her assessment and then has helped my son to progress hugely with 1:1 tutoring. She has always been patient and understanding, she is flexible and adapts her lessons depending on how he presents at each session. She constantly reminds and praises him for his skills. She helps him to understand that the way he learns might need to be different but that he is not less because of it. Over just a few months of tutoring his skills have grown for sure but more importantly his self worth and confidence have really improved too. He used to avoid anything to do with reading and writing but now is eager to give it a go of his own accord. I could not be happier that we had the good fortune of a recommendation to get in touch with Louise.

Louise’s Morph Mastery programme has enabled us to look at new ways of learning to support children whose barriers have prevented them from having success with other Literacy interventions.  Not only was it a fun intervention that captivated the children, it also taught new skills to the staff delivering it and had a positive impact in the classroom by the way of transferable skills. Louise is fun and supportive to work with and loves to celebrate a child’s success.  She considers the needs of the child, yet still maintains a high expectation that they CAN achieve . . . and she gets results!

The detail and structure that Louise has put together in Morph Mastery is very innovative and I can already see the transformative impact it has on pupils. As a previous school based Support for Learning teacher before focussing on tutoring, I can see the benefit of this approach in every class and I have shared widely with former colleagues in schools about it. This resource shows Louise’s commitment to enabling, empowering, and equipping students with the tools they need to excel and it succeeds.

 

What is different about this program is its emphasis on empowering students to become active participants in their own learning. It equips them with strategies to deconstruct and analyze words independently, the students become more confident in their abilities and are more likely to participate and use these tools in other areas as a result, having a lasting impact on their literacy abilities.

 

In training, Louise’s presentation of this programme was excellent: her warm personality in delivering the sessions and amount of support she gave to all participants really helped us all fully understand and feel confident to deliver the programme to the pupils we work with. She showed us how we could make adaptions for our own situations. It not only empowers pupils but the teachers using it as well!

 

I wholeheartedly endorse Louise Selby’s Morphology Spelling program to any educator seeking to make a lasting impact on their students’ literacy skills. It deserves to be a core resource for all schools to raise literacy abilities.

The neurodiversity training that Louise delivered for our team at Phase Hitchin has helped us to ensure that we are being inclusive in our work.
