From the outset of schooling, the experience of learners with dyslexia can be failure and demotivation. The act of meta-cognition can reverse this trend for a number of reasons: it empowers the learner, it focuses on what the learner does rather than what s/he can’t, it draws attention to strengths as well as weaknesses. The learning experience does not have to be one of repeated failure; metacognition leads to success and resilience.
