CPD Session Idea 5: Dyslexia across the secondary curriculum
Secondary teachers are unlikely to have been trained in how dyslexia impacts their subject, and less likely to know what to do about it. Often the most simple accommodations can make all the difference. A CPD approach that gets staff teams talking about how dyslexia can affect their subject, and what to do about it, is to use the Dyslexia Across the Secondary Curriculum infographic

Use this to consider your current teaching methods, and the adaptations you are making. Consider individual students and what their barriers might be. Make plans to improve your adaptive teaching following the suggestions on the infographic.

Identifying and supporting dyslexia across the secondary curriculum
Dyslexia impacts many curricular areas in addition to English. This infographic provides advice for each subject, informing you how dyslexia impacts the subject, and what you can do about it. This is useful for planning, identifying need and CPD.
That’s staff CPD sorted!
Obviously, if you have more time and inclination, it’s great to do more reading around the subject. If you’re like some more ideas, my books “All About Dyslexia” (primary and secondary) were written with busy SENCOs and teachers in mind. Some SENCOs have been using the top tips at the beginning of each chapter for mini CPDs and the quick wins at the end for action points. You can source these books via any major bookstore, but the publisher (Routledge) offers free postage and packaging.
